Mad about Mayfair

This Monday I was a very lucky bunny and had the day off work.. So instead of bumming about on the sofa and getting nervous about my 2nd date with CW, I got up and made a move to one of my favourite areas of London town, Mayfair, and what I consider the foundation of London.

First stop was the RA or formally known as the Royal Academy. Their new exhibition was George Bellows Modern American Life.

A realist painter he grabs your attention with his believable and honest portrayal of the Urban streets of 20th century New York, you could feel the roaring noise of the busy streets and the grit under your finger nails. He grabs your attention and makes you become part of the painting.

For me though the main attraction was the Boxers. Bellows has captured there epic force and strength in a way I have never seen before. His brush strokes move with the boxers arms so you can understand and empathise with the pain in which his opponent might feel as he is knocked back.
The exhibition is excellently curated as you are let in on the sketch books and charcoals, which would have been the run up to the larger scale paintings.

As you can see there is no wonder why George Bellows was and is one of Americas most celebrated Artists.

Looking up the central staircase to the top floor was beautiful.

My next stop was Fortnum and Mason a quintessentially British department Store known for it's Luxury Hampers, Turquoise blue and general over all decadence. I felt totally at home once entering though the doors and arriving in a open plan floor sheltered by chandeliers and a rich red carpet. The smell of delicious food came from every corner, I didn't want to leave.
It is spread out over five floors each bringing something new and exciting.

Obviously I had to visit the Patisserie section first. Always a number 1 priority.
Then onto the food hall. Each shelf was immaculate and a feast to look at I wanted to buy the lot and display it in my kitchen at home.

I wish....

As I moved upstairs to the sent section I came across these very clever displays.. LOVE THEM.

If only I could take it all home.

My last stop was the best of all.

It is my ultimate treat to myself and I always save my penny's to come here. There is no competition they would win the war of ultimate Patisserie hands downs.
As you can see I didn't hold back and I picked up lots of Macaroons, coffee, sugared almonds and a croissant.
I'm not a piggie I promise hee hee..

The Store is hard to miss in a good way. A gold cave holding its treasure, tasty little morsels of heaven.

The Marie Antoinette Macaroon was by far my fav.

For me this Store is like having a piece of Paris at home.

I saved the Croissant for breakfast... And look this made me happy for the rest of the day, it made going back to work on Tuesday a doddle, who couldn't face the day after this!!

The end.
