David Bowie Is and L'opera

I took an extra day off work this Tuesday to prolong my bank holiday and generally sort my life out, and thank god I did as being English I'm obsessed with the weather, and the weather man delivered another blissfully warm sunny day.

 So I popped on my walking shoes, well not really actually I put my Russell and Bromley studded loafers and skipped out the door into the heat.

So where to? I ventured along the river bank, iPod blazing in my ears and decided South Kensington was where I was heading. The V&A to be exact. I thought I would try my hand at getting a ticket to the David Bowie Is  exhibition which I had been dying to go and see. I was in luck and was given a ticket for 13:45pm.

So with 45 minutes to kill and my tummy rumbling a light bulb switched in my head and I headed for L'opera (don't you think the name is totally appropriate for the exhibition I was going to see, both linking to music and all!!!!)

All the deli food is homemade and organic. Their style is Levantine to Persia with an Italian and Greek twist. 100% up my street.

I made my selection of salads to take away (you can eat in but I had other plans), and began to get snap happy around the colourful, artistic and beautiful restaurant. Every corner offered something exciting to look and an abundance of colour.

Off I trotted back to the V&A salads a go go and coffee in hand, and I plonked myself down outside in there epic-ly stunning sunny courtyard complete with pond and I began to chow down. The food was fresh and packed full of flavor, I recommend the taztziki (so fresh with a massive Mint hit), the tabloueh and the Aubergine towers, oh and saffron potatoes.

With 5 minutes to go I packed up my leftovers and headed for the entrance to the exhibition. I was greeted with a headphone set, an important piece to the exhibition as it plugged music, quotes, speeches etc linking to the piece you were around (very clever stuff I think). Obvi no photography was allowed, sorry chaps. But this exhibition blew my mind and was worth every penny. GO!

I loved this quote from Bowie in 1995 'All art is unstable. it's meaning is not necessarily that implied by the author. There is no authoritative voice. There are only multiple reading.' 

Bowie wants his music to look like it sounds. So he created his persona Ziggy Stardust. Who had a dramatic rise and fall, which was perfectly depicted throughout the exhibition. I was a particular fan of the costumes dotted around the rooms on platforms.

'The V&A’s Theatre and Performance curators, Victoria Broackes and Geoffrey Marsh have selected more than 300 objects that will be brought together for the very first time. They include handwritten lyrics, original costumes, fashion, photography, film, music videos, set designs, Bowie’s own instruments and album artwork.The exhibition will explore the broad range of Bowie’s collaborations with artists and designers in the fields of fashion, sound, graphics, theatre, art and film. On display will be more than 300 objects including Ziggy Stardust bodysuits (1972) designed by Freddie Burretti, photography by Brian Duffy; album sleeve artwork by Guy Peellaert and Edward Bell; visual excerpts from films and live performances including The Man Who Fell to Earth, music videos such as Boys Keep Swinging and set designs created for the Diamond Dogs tour (1974). Alongside these will be more personal items such as never-before-seen storyboards, handwritten set lists and lyrics as well as some of Bowie’s own sketches, musical scores and diary entries, revealing the evolution of his creative ideas.'

Hee I copied that from the V&A website, thanks guys ;-) I left feeling so cultured and very inspired. Also I can't help but thinking I'm so lucky to live in London.

Bank Holiday in Cornwall

Cornwall is probably one of the best places in the world to go in England. I have been every year since I was born and it holds very fond memories for me.

So naturally when my friend Gaby invited us down to her house we all leapt at the chance and bundled into cars to make the most of our Bank Holiday weekend and the very rare warm English weather.

Day one week took to the cliffs above Polzeath  beach. My little legs may have become a tiny bit tired /massive amounts of huffing and puffing from being out of breath hee hee but the view made up for it 100 times over. We also headed to the iconic Mariners in Rock for a scrummy lunch afterwards which helped to revive us a lot. I had the Porthilly Mussels "Mariniere" which were so fresh and amazing I could eat them every day.

That night we headed to Casa de Oxy. They boys came over all macho and ran into the sea as soon as we arrived, don't worry we showed them up the next morning hee.

We were treated to Fish and chips, a bon fire, some fairly doggy/brilliant ghost stories and best of all a dressing up box (I'm a sucker for a dressing up box). Suffice to say things got silly quickly aided by wine, vodka and good god knows what else #lads ha.

The next morning was not so fabulous to begin with, but we quickly recovered thanks to the great weather, cold sea and reliving moments from the night before. My tummy was aching from laughter by lunch time.

That night in an attempt to act our age we sat down to one of the best roasts ever. It was exactly what the doctor ordered after a long day or running around on the beach. Special mentions to the host and chef Gaby, thank you so much.

However being us our inner school kids came out and the ridding hats came on and clothes exchanging commenced. All in the name of good clean fun of course.

Party games were played and someone genuinely thought they ripped something haaaa, not really don't worry. 

The next day I wanted to cry. This weekend was so amazing my best Bank Holiday to date I didn't want to leave I had a big case of Monday night blues. Thank god we have only two weeks to the next one few.

A night @AquabyAqua

My email delivered me a fantastic surprise last week and invitation to a evening at Aqua along with a 20% discount. AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW I was so happy.

Aqua being one of my all time fav stores, located just off Carnaby Street, always delivers on a perfect party dress and amazing leotards for a night out..

I arrive to a DJ playing some great tunes and a glass of champers waiting for me at the door, PERFECT. 
The store is bright and inviting, but urban cool at the same time. The staff are fantastic to chat to and offer great advise.(Go a size smaller than you usually would!)

Bang smack in front of me was THE dress, Ace peplum mini dress, it looked so amazing in white on the mannequin but I go black when it comes to dress and dam this is a sexy one. Now I just need to find somewhere to where it and then I can have an excuse to buy one. (I'm trying to beat me shopping addiction, it's not working very well ;-) ). 

Instead I chose a this great little number, Oyster cream backless bodysuit, which I'm going to team with jeans this coming Friday and a major pair of heel. Didn't I tell you they nail it when it come to going out outfits!!! I really wanted it in black also but they had sold out, I was left broken hearted hee hee.

Asos also carrys Aqua which is ideal for any of you that want to create an outfit with different brands. I have these Hong Kong Heeled Sandals With Metal Trim in beige which I think will tie my Friday night outfit together perfectly.

The dress above are from the Asos website, I found another jem I must have missed in the store (Mary Structured Prom Dress Size 4 please heehee), I told you I have a problem..
